Crawl Space Kitchen

I like to cook. Especially when I'm making a meal for someone else. Cooking for one always seems like such a fuss for not much payoff. But being able to display the full meal in one fell swoop always feels like setting up a mini surprise party each night. Granted, our apartment is pretty small so it's not much of a surprise.

I love watching cooking shows, even if I don't like the food, just to see all the pretty dishes, and the steam rising from their cast iron skillets as they toss the scallops in a beautiful white wine reduction. But. I don't like scallops. And I don't have a cast iron skillet. What could I possibly
make with my discount cookware and my bag of frozen chicken to compete with that?

Well, this is about finding out. I don't have a lot of time or money. And I'm cooking on an electric stove that has one perpetually wonky burner that makes all liquids pool in one side of the pan like the deep end of a swimming pool. But I like to experiment, and hopefully I'll find a few things that I wouldn't mind making again.

So here I go. With my plastic spatula in hand I'm off to discover what works in my kitchen and what doesn't. My dinners may not be pretty, but with a bit of luck (and garlic) they might just taste alright.
